Mt Samaria VIneyard

HOME	Three red wines are produced by Mt. Samaria Vineyard - Shiraz , a Cabernet Shiraz blend and Tempranillo. Mt. Samaria Shiraz is a typical cool-climate wine, growing well in this area where there are hot summer days but cooler evenings. As harvest approaches, days are shorter and nights crisp, adding to the complexity of flavours. Traditionally the wine is spicy and peppery with ripe berry characteristics and subtle oak aromas as a result of maturing in French and American Barriques and Puncheons. The palate is smooth and rounded with good acid and fine tannins. With careful cellaring the wine drinks well for five to six years. Mt. Samaria Cabernet grapes were planted in 1992 and add complexity and length to the Cabernet/Shiraz blend. The first vintage of Tempranillo was harvested in 2005 and released in 2006. 2006 and 2007 vintages were lost to frost damage and smoke taint. 2008 vintage has just been released at our May tastings and is now available for purchase. Tempranillo is the great red grape variety of Spain and is becoming more prevalent in the Australian market. Tempranillo is capable of making deep coloured long lasting wines especially in relatively cool climates such as at Mt. Samaria. It is renowned for its fruity characters and remains stable without much browning making it ideal for long cellaring

	WHITE SHIRAZ 2008 Winemaker Michael Reid : Sunset blush with lingering strawberry and cherry flavours - 11 grams of sugar
	SHIRAZ 2010 Winemaker : Michael Reid. Rich colour, spicy plum flavours, firm tannins. Matured in American oak.
	TEMPRANILLO 2009 Winemaker: Roger Cowan. A lighter Spanish everyday drinking style. Spicy with light acid and tannin finish.
	PINOT GRIGIO 2011 Winemaker : Roger Cowan. A light crisp dry white with hints of pear and apple
